Estradiol in menopause
Estradiol (E2) is the primary form of estrogen in a woman's body during reproductive years. Produced by the ovaries and responsible for most estrogen effects - on menstruation, skin, bones, heart, and brain. At menopause, estradiol levels drop significantly and remain low in postmenopause. Modern hormone replacement therapy typically uses bioidentical estradiol in patch, gel, or pill form.
