Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) in menopause
Synonyms: menopausal hormone therapy
Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) can be an effective option for moderate-to-severe menopausal symptoms after an individualised risk review. It replaces lost estrogen (estrogen alone for women without a uterus; estrogen plus progesterone for women with a uterus). HRT comes in various forms: transdermal patch, topical gel, oral pill, and vaginal preparations. In Malaysia, HRT is available via obstetrics and gynaecology specialists at private hospitals (RM200-450 monthly) and government hospitals (RM30-80 with a Ministry of Health Malaysia referral).
