Genitourinary Syndrome of Menopause (GSM) in menopause
Synonyms: vaginal atrophy, atrophic vaginitis
Genitourinary syndrome of menopause (GSM) is a modern term covering symptoms from estrogen deficiency in the urinary and genital tract, including vaginal dryness, dyspareunia (pain during intercourse), urinary discomfort, and recurrent UTIs. Unlike hot flushes, GSM tends to worsen over time without treatment. Vaginal estrogen cream or ring may be an effective treatment option for selected women after clinician review.
