Isoflavone in menopause
Isoflavones are phytoestrogen compounds - plant compounds that mildly mimic estrogen. Main sources include soy (genistein, daidzein) and red clover (biochanin A). Evidence for soy isoflavones reducing hot flushes is moderate-to-strong: a 20-25% reduction in women who are 'equol producers'. Being plant-based, halal status is usually easier to verify, but still check the exact product label. It is safe for most women.
