Thrombosis (HRT risk) in menopause
Synonyms: blood clot
Thrombosis or blood clots is a primary risk considered in hormone replacement therapy decisions. Oral hormone replacement therapy can slightly increase risk (especially in first year) because it passes through the liver. Transdermal hormone replacement therapy (patch, gel) doesn't significantly increase this risk. Other risk factors: high body mass index, smoking, personal/family thrombosis history, long travel.
